Translation Apps – Which one to choose?
Learning a foreign language is not an easy task. It takes a lot of time and effort to reach the level of proficiency that would enable us to communicate with other native speakers. However, you don’t have to wait until you know the language very well to visit another country. Whenever there is a word or an expression that you don’t understand, a translation app is there to help you. Today we present the most popular translation apps that will prove useful, wherever you go.
- Google Translate
We all use Google Translate through our browsers, however, there is also a Google Translate app that can you can install on your phone. One of the main advantages of this app is the number of languages that you can choose from (103 languages). It also allows you to extract text from printed sources and offers voice recognition as well.
- Microsoft Translator
Microsoft Translator is an app that offers translations into over 60 languages. It allows you to translate not only typed text but real-time conversations, too. You can also download some languages and use the app in an offline mode.
- iTranslate
iTranslate allows to translate texts, websites, voice-to-voice conversations into 90 different languages. The app also includes dictionaries with synonyms and different meanings. It can switch easily between dialects and includes an offline mode, which can be used abroad to avoid expensive roaming charges.
- Waygo
Waygo is an app that enables translations from Chinese, Korean and Japanese. You just need to take a photo of a phrase that you don’t understand and the app provides the translation immediately. The free version of Waygo offers only 10 translations a month, so it is a good idea to keep the photos of the past translations.
If there are other applications that you recommend for travelling, let us know about them in comments.
Even though translation apps turn out to be very useful when travelling, you should always be aware of the fact that they don’t provide accurate translations of professional texts and business documents. Therefore, whenever you need a reliable translation of important documents in order to conduct business operations abroad or approach foreign clients, you should invest in professional language services.
